Choose a place with a clear purpose

Over a small table, a pendant can help define the seating area. Beside a bed, it can free up space on a nightstand. In an entryway, a sculptural shape can introduce the colors and materials used elsewhere in the home.

For a reading corner, consider the light you need on the page as well as the appearance of the fixture. A decorative pendant may work best alongside a separate reading light. Near a sink or other moisture, confirm that the specific fixture is suitable for the location before ordering. 

Check the size before choosing the color

Measure the glass width and height, the ceiling height, and the full drop from the ceiling to the bottom of the fixture. A paper template at the intended size can help you judge the scale and sightlines.

Plan glass color and bulb choice together

Clear, smoky and colored glass can look different in daylight and when illuminated. The effect also depends on the glass finish, bulb and surrounding surfaces. Compare the glass with your cabinet, wall and hardware finishes, then use our glass color guide to prepare your preferred combination.

A warm LED bulb can support a softer atmosphere, but check the socket, voltage, maximum wattage, dimmer compatibility and included components for the exact light. A qualified installer should confirm the installation and required clearances.
